A life from the land of urban mammals

I have been photographing India’s wild places since 2010 — mostly on solitary expeditions, because the forest speaks loudest when you are alone. My work begins from a simple conviction: the animal’s wellbeing always comes before the photograph. I work closely with the NGO Shrusti Pariyavaran Mandal on conservation in Central India.

The road has taken me far beyond the tiger reserves of home — a 26-day solo motorcycle ride to Leh-Ladakh, nine hours by boat into Dibru Saikhowa chasing feral horses, seasons with the flamingos of the Little Rann of Kutch, and winters in the high Himalaya on the trail of snow leopards. Along the way my images have travelled too: to the BBC Natural History Unit’s Wonders of the Monsoon, to Sanctuary Asia, and onto the covers of conservation publications.
